Welcome to Our Blog!
February 27, 2008 by Kate
Hello, friends of the BPO!
My name is Kate Holzemer, and I play the viola in the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. I am so excited to announce the new blog of the musicians of the BPO, “Let’s Go BPO”. We hope to use this blog to share our experiences as professional musicians, but more importantly, as a way to connect to you, our audience.
I will be updating this blog about once a week, and I will answer your questions as they come in. Hopefully once they see how easy it is to blog, more and more BPO musicians will join in and contribute to “Let’s go BPO”.
There are a few ways you can participate in this blog:
1. Read it! (Duh)
2. Comment. At the bottom of each post, you can leave a comment. Don’t hold back. Let us know what you think!
3. Ask a question. At the top of this page, there is a tab labeled “Ask a Question”. Click on that tab, and leave a question in the comments. I will do my best to answer every question I receive.
I guess that’s all for today! Thanks for visiting, Let’s Go BPO!
This is where you leave a comment!
Kate!
Congratulations! Kudos! Bravo! This is wonderful!

Great idea. Hopefully it will appeal to the “younger crowd” (which, unfortunately, I am not!). I noticed that the BPO website also has started a “Meet a Musician—Artist Profile.” That’s a good start, but how about having the musicians list their profiles or biographies that are linked to their names in the orchestral roster? Some orchestras, like RPO, do this. JPW
What’s the photo on the blog page about? The bald guy in front looks a little shady. How about a photo of the ORCHESTRA? Also, with all due respect you may want to limit your use of the word “Duh” in blogs. I assume you are hoping to attract the intelligent younger crowd, not the Britney/Paris followers.
Also, I have to agree with Jim above. Meet a Musician should be Meet the Musicians plural! Everyone deserves to have a bio, not just Michael Ludwig and JoAnn Falletta (again, with all due respect).
Hi Jim and Jeanette! Thanks for your comments! I totally agree that the BPO website should have musician’s bios and pictures. I believe that’s something the orchestra is working on actually.
Jeanette, that is a picture of the orchestra! That’s a picture of a group of us hanging out in a non-tuxedo situation. This blog is a totally musician run enterprise and when I put it together I only had my personal photos to choose from. I expect for the banner photo to rotate a lot, so you can count on there being a few more professional photos in the mix.
As for attracting the Britney/Paris followers, I say, the more the merrier! The reason I started this blog was to highlight the vibrant array of personalities we have in the BPO. We might even have a few Paris fans hiding in our midst…..Hee. Hopefully I won’t be the only musician writing here, and not everyone will have the same chit-chatty writing style as me, so fear not! I’m sure most of my BPO colleagues will be more sparing with their use of the word “duh”.
Yes, I deduced that the photo consisted of select members of the BPO.
Meanwhile, we do hope the powers that be will decide the entire orchestra is worthy of the spotlight on this site. I’m sure you’d appreciate that too, Kate, yes?
All the best!

Absolutely! This is our main goal!
Way to go Kate! Let’s go BPO!!
Doesn’t Paris Hilton say “That’s hot.”? I say “Duh” alot and I’m 35 years old. Well, there you, there’s some news about BPO musicians. We are surprisingly NOT well-spoken. I agree, orchestra websites are really nice when you can click on the name on the orchestra roster and read the bio.
I love it! I am so glad to be able to get some insight into the BPO. I grew up hearing about the Orchestra, but have only seen it live once - in 8th grade.
Kate, what do you like most and least about being in the BPO?
This is a fantastic grassroots blog! Kate, you are the perfect person to spearhead this effort and I hope others join you in writing entries. It’s a great, personal way to get to know members of the orchestra. I especially enjoy the non-tuxedo banner photo. Keep up the good work.
